I’m posting this in support of the Rhode Island Art Education Association. They are fighting, with other organizations/associations, to get House Bill No. H-7020 approved. This bill would increase transparency in the amount of students enrolled in “arts” courses, ensure students are meeting these core courses for graduation by establishing proficiency, and hire an arts curriculum content coordinator that is in line with other subject areas. The worry is that, due to post-COVID relief funding, the Arts in schools will be subject to budget cuts which will inevitably leave a negative impact.
A copy of the bill is here, which is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday 1/24/2024.
RIAEA came up with some ideas that Rhode Islanders, and others in the arts community, can do to ensure the bill passes and keep the Arts safe in RI schools. Please see this document.
Please share with your friends in the arts community. This is also on the RIAEA’s Facebook and Instagram. Spread the word!
